“Everything is so natural in Indonesia. Smell of the ground when it’s raining. Terrace rice fields. Everything is green.
Valleys and hills. Little hills surrounded by banana trees. Natural resources. At sun rise, the rooster crows. Farmers begin their day. Kids in uniforms walking to school… Dark blue …Red…Gray… Beaches in Bali. White sand so smooth to touch. Waters- so blue, when you stand on the shore you can see through… deep down inside…small colorful fish, star fish, coral….Sounds of waterfall…Singing birds…Our lovely pink birds... Everything is natural in Indonesia.”
- Dwi Sari (Member of the Board of Advisors, Bookwallah Organization)
According to UNICEF, there are an estimated 4.4 Million orphans in Indonesia. There are about 7,000 orphanages in Indonesia with about 500,000 children. Only 6% of the children in these orphanages are actually orphans according to a study by Save the Children, UNICEF and Social Services. Many of these children are increasingly being placed in the care of these homes by parents who cannot afford to provide them an education, food or shelter. The reality is that accessing resources by many of these privately run orphanages are difficult. Bookwallah's mission is to provide storybooks to orphanages within Indonesia- both English and local language- through the Bookwallah Book . Additionally, Bookwallah would like to build Bookwallah Reading Rug Program for those orphanages that do not have separate child -friendly reading areas with complimentary Bookwallah Reading Services.
