Mumbai

East meets West library

The library here was established in 2013. This is our one and only school project. The rationale for this project is to provide socio – emotional aid to children with hearing and speaking disabilities and make them inclusive of the society. The children with special needs are often prone to social withdrawal and emotional problems caused by a drop in self esteem and confidence. Bookwallah has volunteer intervention here wherein 3 days in a week sessions are conducted in our safe haven (library project) . In a year we conduct around 100 curated sessions with them. Apart from our sessions, the library is open and accessible to the children during all the days. With regular intervention of our volunteers the children have become receptive to values which will help them in the long term. The elder children have also started taking leadership roles and conducting sessions with the help of our volunteers. there are in total 4 sessions taken within a week and 125 sessions curated in a year. Our library is open for them 24/7 which provides with an environment of safety and hope for the children.
